about

Tammy Weis and Sarah Moule’s intimate recording of ‘The Rose’, Amanda McBroom’s classic song of struggle and hope, is a celebration of their shared love of singing in harmony. They have often performed ‘The Rose’ together on each other’s London gigs at the 606 Club, The Vortex and most recently at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club where it received a rapturous reception.

"A spellbinding, chills-inducing rendition, soaring straight from the hearts of these two songbirds as if sent straight from the sonic heavens..."
Sarah Polonsky, Billboard/DJ Mag/VIBE

Tammy grew up in Northern Alberta, Canada with a great-grandfather who played banjo and fiddle and she was already singing at the tender age of three. She dedicated her first album ‘Legacy’ to her late mother, a singer and musician, with whom she performed ‘The Rose’ just a few months before her mother passed away. This cherished memory was a pivotal moment of understanding in their turbulent mother/daughter relationship. Tammy’s latest album ‘Where I Need To Be’ features original music co-written with Grammy Award-winning producer Terry Britten and pianist Tom Cawley. Her highly anticipated forthcoming album extends her musical vision around one of Portugal’s finest and most celebrated poets, Fernando Pessoa.

‘Isn't she great! Now there's a vocalist’ Michael Buble

Sarah grew up in a large family in Sussex, England where harmony singing was a regular part of family life. She has released five critically acclaimed albums of songs by legendary American lyricist Fran Landesman and composer/pianist husband Simon Wallace who plays piano on this recording. Sarah’s 5th album ‘Stormy Emotions’ was released in Spring 2021 to stellar reviews on both sides of the Atlantic and featured in 4 Best 2021 critic’s lists. Sarah has toured with jazz composer and pianist Bob Dorough and performed with British jazz luminaries Norma Winstone and Ian Shaw, broadcast with the BBC Concert Orchestra and performed at jazz festivals, theatres and clubs throughout the UK.

‘Long established as one of the best jazz singers in the UK’ Helen Mayhew, JAZZfm

lyrics

Some say ove it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
And you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose
